Master Gardener Volunteers are always looking for ways to make an impact in the community. However, they like to have a little fun too! In October, the Miami County Master Gardener Volunteers won the Director’s Choice Award for their entry in the annual Fall Farm Fest Scarecrow Contest hosted by the Miami County Parks District. The festival is held at the Lost Creek Reserve and enjoys tens of thousands of visitors each fall to enjoy a variety of autumn activities and contests. The scarecrow committee was comprised of four enthusiastic 2016 MGV Interns and their display centered around a gardening with children theme.

In addition to their creative straw endeavors, the MGVs manned an informational booth where festival goers could learn about the MGV program, sign up for training and pruning classes and look at an educational display regarding composting.
