Greene County Master Gardener Volunteers Celebrate

Greene County MGV internsGreene County Master Gardener Volunteers celebrated their 2008 accomplishments at the Beavercreek Golf Club, November 11th.  Greene County Commissioner Rick Perales was on hand to congratulate all.  The Master Gardener Class of 2008 had 16 members that were certified, having completed all requirements to become Master Gardener Volunteers.  Their project was designing and maintaining a new herb garden at Collins Schoolhouse in Xenia, Oh.

Brown County Graduates its Second Master Gardener Volunteers Class

Brown County-OSU Extension held graduation ceremonies Saturday, January 10th, for its Master Gardener Volunteer Brown County MGV GraduatesClass of 2008. The graduates had finished their classroom and bookwork a year earlier, at which time they became Volunteer interns. Each intern was then responsible for performing 50 hours of community service.

Geauga MG Volunteers Take State in 2008
 On October 4th, at the Statewide MGV Conference, Geauga County received the 2008 Dedication of Red Simmons GardenOutstanding Master Gardener Volunteer Project- medium category (26-75 volunteers) honors.  Geauga County Master Gardener Volunteers (GCMGV) served as expert consultants, from start to finish, for the Red Simmons Memorial project.  The project entailed the building, installation and finishing the entire landscape for a small, restful, corner memorial park at the Geauga County Safety Center.  This memorial commemorates Sheriff George R. "Red" Simmons dedication, innovation and passion to keep Geauga residents safe, who at age 56, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Growing Container Tomatoes

Allen County - Lima, OH"Big A" Terry Allerbach receives award

This summer, the OSU Extension Office, St. Rita's Medical Center, and the Allen County Health Department partnered together to develop a program that addressed the needs of cutting food costs for people who participated in soup kitchens.  The goal was to give every participant their own tomato plant, container, potting mix, fertilizer, - everything that one would need to grow tomatoes in a container.
