The Ohio Governor's Residence was the site of the most recent Ohio Heritage Garden Ambassador training attended by 22 OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers. County Coordinators nominate one volunteer to serve as the Ambassador to the Heritage Garden. The Ambasadors train at the Residence and are available in their county to present a program on the Heritage Garden and the importance of native plants in Ohio.
Former Ohio First Lady Hope Taft presented a 2 hour program on the Heritage Garden and reviewed the PowerPoint presentation. After lunch, Ambassadors were given a tour of the Heritage Gardens by Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Governor's Residence horticulturist, Laura Roth. Ambassadors have presented more than 100 programs to over 2600 Ohio residents since the program began in 2007. The presentation consists of an overview of the history of the Residence and photos of the plant diversity that is represented in the 5 physiographic regions of Ohio. Amazingly, flowers and plants from these 5 regions are grown right there at the Residence. In addition, all of the great "green" efforts at the Governor's Residence are highlighted. Arrange a tour:
