The Way to Grow Community Garden Project is sponsored by Ohio State University Extension-Clark County and supported by the Master Gardener Volunteer program. Components of the program are: 29 community gardens supplied with plants, seed and education; aVictory Garden that supplies the Second Harvest Food Pantry with over 4000 pounds of produce; operating a greenhouse provided by Wittenberg University to grow plants; providing support to local businesses (Benjamin Steele and Gorden Foods) that have started gardens to donate food to local pantries; partnerships with local growers to meet the demand for plants; partnerships with local organizations such as Family Youth Initiatives and ELF (Exploring Local Foods) and in the near future will be advising TAC industries on starting a vegetable garden for their clients.
The program is suported by grants from local foundations and must be renewed every year. Two Master Gardener Volunteers guide the program as paid staff.
